    [BNE] Wheel powdercoating/painting?

Alright, I want to get my wheels either powdercoated with a clear coat, or 2pc painted (in black).

Has anyone got advice on which is the better of the two options for durability and finish, and can anyone suggest places to call in Brisbane (pref North) that can do a drive in, drive out package (ie. I don't want to have to organize to remove the rims/tyres myself... I want to just drop the car off, and pick it up later).

    Anyone?

some one correct me if I'm wrong but powdercoat doesn't need a clear coat.

I'd go powdercoat it's more durable than 2pac on something like wheels.

how long can you do without your car? becasue I think the quickest you'll be able to get it all done is 3days.

better off borrowing a set of wheels to use while yours are being painted.

Yeah, powdercoating doesn't need a clear coat, but I would prefer a gloss finish on the wheels so would be looking for a clear coat on top.

Hrrmm... yeah I thought it would take at least 24 hours to cure properly no matter what the finish, and the lack of a spare set of wheels makes it tricky for me.

The problem with powder coating is if/when u damage the wheel u have to get the whole wheel redone whereas 2pac u just sand back the section fill it and respray that part.

A few brissie members have done the stock 3MPS wheels in a few shades of black.

I will ask if they recommend anyone??

I am looking at places to powdercoat my new wheels when they arrive.

I have heard Mag-It wheels are good and also Wheel revolution are good.

Does anyone have any favourites in the Brisbane area (will consider gold coast)

Powder-coating is a stronger finish, but the finish is not as nice IMO.

for spraying, it takes a while. I waited 2 days for the undercoat to cure before sanding back. After spraying the wheels, I was told to wait atleast a few days, better a few weeks for the paint to fully harden. If the one shop can do the whole project for you, will likely not be cheap, esp if the wheels are delivered to them dirty.

Looking forward to the results, my advice is go for an original colour, standard silver or dark are too obvious, a little colour in the wheel can contrast nicely to your car's colour.

The man to talk to is Mr Jlt. Just about every set of wheels he has fixed up have been powdercoated in black. He is in Townsville, send him a pm, I'm sure he'll give you all the info you need.

I know own a set of his old wheels and the powdercoat is so durable.

I prefer powdercoating due to the longevity of the finish over 2pac paint.
I would probably get a layer of clearcoat over the powdercoat too.
    Looking at something dark-ish
